Champions play a key role in WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition

Leading social media content development, speaking at Ceremonies, and meeting with Champions, the contributions from the WorldSkills Champions Trust representatives have helped make the 46th WorldSkills Competition special.

An important moment of WorldSkills Closing Ceremonies is when the WorldSkills flag is handed from the current Host to the next Host. This tradition is customarily performed by government officials and Member country or region representatives. As with many elements of WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition, the ceremonial task has taken on new meaning as WorldSkills Champions take centre stage.

The final Closing Ceremony will take place in Salzburg, Austria on 27 November, wrapping up the last of the 29 WorldSkills events hosted as part of the 46th WorldSkills Competition. WorldSkills Champions Trust Representative Jacqueline Tanzer will be responsible for handing over the flag on behalf of all 15 Host countries and regions to WorldSkills Lyon 2024.

Jacqueline also officially opened this year’s international championship in Bern, Switzerland in September.

“I am here representing the skilled youth who are working hard to reach their goals and who want to have their own impact on our world. I am here for the Trainers, Experts, employers, families, and friends who give their time so generously, so our Competitors could get this far. I am here for the Champions we are about to celebrate,” she said.

During 46th WorldSkills Competition, the Champions Trust had a key role in representing skilled young people from around world — leading social media content development, speaking at Ceremonies on behalf of WorldSkills International, and meeting with Champions encouraging them to stay connected to WorldSkills at their local, national, and international levels.

“I felt such a responsibility and honour to represent the youth voice within the WorldSkills community. I felt like we are heard, and that people care about what we feel, what we think, and how important this movement is for us,” said Leonardo Rodrigues, Champions Trust Regional Representative for Americas.

The WorldSkills Champions Trust is a volunteer group of past Competitors who are the voice of young people in the WorldSkills movement. They work to raise levels of engagement among WorldSkills Champions and promote involvement in WorldSkills projects, initiatives, and activities.

Recruitment for the next group of WorldSkills Champions will be launched in late November, with applications accepted until mid-January.
